2017 Week 48: Milestones | Party Preparations | International Bazaar

November 20-26, 2017

Work

We were able to deploy to all employees one of the systems we’ve been working on. I say I was in luck with this deployment. For one, we were running late with all the approvals to to have it deployed. We need at least 3 days lead time to coordinate things. I did it just the day before. Next, it was Thanksgiving week in the US and some of the approvers were US-based. But they approved still hehehehe. During the deployment, we discovered that there was a wrong folder name in our checklist. I asked if we can treat that as an emergency type of deployment. The implementer was in a good mood and he said yes hahaha! And so we were able to deploy on time! Whew.

The project team went out for dinner the next day to celebrate this milestone. The boss was with us so at least we were not restricted with the Php 150.00/head budget hehehehe. We ate at Mr. Choi in Robinson’s Magnolia. I ate still even if I can’t taste the food.

↑ Rice with cheesy sauce!

↑ Buttered shrimp

↑ Fried rice with sauce and Beef broccoli

↑ Chicken which we got for free because our boss has a Mr. Choi card hehe.

On Friday, the officers went out again for a working dinner. We went to Banapple in Gateway this time. We had to deliberate who to give awards to this year and we did that over dinner. It’s good to do this sometimes – get out of the meeting rooms and do your meetings outside. You just have to ensure that you are able to do you agenda.

Weekend

On Sunday, a friend and I went to the International Bazaar at the PICC Forum. We bought our tickets the week before. We were there as early as 9:30 AM but there were already a lot of people! Our main goal was to buy chocolates from Switzerland because it was on sale for Php 100.00, which we were able to do but had to endure all the pushing because there was no organized line hehe.

We also tried some of the food from the different countries. I bought a French sandwich, a Syrian baklava, Vietnamese iced coffee (my favorite when we went to Vietnam some years ago!), and fried spring rolls. They were all good as per my friend. I know they were but sadly, I can’t taste any of them to enjoy the flavors! Sad life, that moment hahahahaha.

We were giggling like kids and amazed at how some of the people there are “experts” when it comes to bazaars because they came ready with all their trolleys and big shopping bags hehehe. As for me and my friend, we only brought our own eco bags haha.

We went back to Shangri-la to watch Coco. I cried a bucket because it was all about family – both living and dead. And because of that movie, I vowed to always have something prepared for November 1 hehehehe. Whether that’s only fiction or not, I’d like to think that on that special occasion, our loved ones do really visit us.

The end. Have a great week ahead.

My First MEDGATE Experience

I have cough and colds for 2 weeks now. The worst part is that my nose is clogged most of the time and it’s affecting my hearing. I also have stubborn phlegm that doesn’t want to come out no matter how hard I cough. I went on sick leave yesterday just to rest some more.

I also wanted to see a doctor but knowing how it is in hospitals and clinics with the long lines and waiting time, I was having second thoughts. And then I remember MEDGATE being introduced by our HR team not so long ago. I was not able to attend the roadshow but a friend said it’s having the convenience of calling in to speak with a doctor. And so I tried it yesterday.

I first registered online via their website. But to be able to register, your HMO provider must be affiliated with them.

After the registration, I called their hotline. I was able to talk to a nurse. He first asked me about my personal information and medical history. He also asked me what I needed consultation for. After that, he transferred me to a doctor.

The doctor asked several questions to ensure that she’ll give me the correct prescription. Questions vary from when it started to what exactly was I feeling during the call, medications taken and medical history of the family. After the series of questions, she provided her prescription and care plan. The care plan contains the diagnosis or impression, the doctor’s recommendations, and medication summary. She also asked me to repeat it to ensure that I understood everything. The care plan and prescription were emailed to me. The doctor also scheduled a follow up call after two days to check on my health’s progress. How cool is that?

After speaking with the doctor, I was transferred back to a nurse who reiterated the doctor’s care plan. The nurse also requested for a survey, so I was asked several survey-related questions.

I also learned that they can deliver medicines. Lowest price is Php 250.00 with a Php 50.00 delivery charge. Not bad for convenience and especially if you really don’t have the energy to buy the medicines. But I was not sure of the cost of my medicines so I did not avail of it.

Overall, I was very happy with my first experience with them. I was able to get prescription without leaving home. Part of my care plan is to run to the nearest hospital if my condition gets worst. I also need to see an ENT for my ears to get checked to ensure that the hearing loss is just related to my clogged nose. So I guess they still only handle the most common illnesses with obvious symptoms. Other than that, their recommendation would still be to go see a doctor face to face.

Maybe the only thing that was awkward was the survey at the end of the call. Well maybe because I don’t want being put on the spot for such things hehe. I prefer having a link to answer later on. Plus, the consultation with the doctor takes a while (I spoke with the doctor for about 10 minutes), and that’s draining as well. They are talking with patients who have lesser energy at the moment and may not be able to provide appropriate feedback at that moment because they are not feeling well. So maybe, this is something they want to reconsider.

But again, as I said, I am glad there is another option nowadays for doctor’s consultations for sickness that aren’t too critical. For sure, I’ll use this facility again but I hope it’s not too soon hehehe.

2017 Week 47: Our Own Summit

November 13-19, 2017

It was supposed to be a very long weekend in Manila due to the ASEAN Summit but coincidentally, it was also our department’s annual summit! Since we have colleagues coming over from some parts of the globe, and logistics have already been arranged, everything has to push through. The upside though is that at least we don’t have to juggle too much with work as most of our team’s clients are also on vacation. So at least we have full attention on the summit, because our days were also full with all sorts of meetings!

I attended 3 days of the summit. Most days were challenging to the brain cells but all days were also overflowing with food hehehehehe. We also had the chance to meet and bond with our corporate boss, and some colleagues who we just mostly get to interact via email or calls.

↑ We had a hands-on activity and since the trainer doesn’t know everyone, he gave us names with a little trivia about them. The names are references to the folders we should be accessing. I was Ada Lovelace at that time. I had no idea who she was until this piece of paper hehe.

Our IT head required us to sit down with non-team members to network more during breaks. While I was looking forward to these breaks to just keep quiet because I still had sore throat and I fear that I will eventually lose my voice from too much talking, I just had to comply. My voice was with me all throughout. Whew.

On the second day, we had dinner at Jade Garden in Glorietta. My oh my! I can’t forget the prawn salad and the Peking duck! Kaya pala mahal si duck kasi ubod ng sarap, well at least yung natikman ko hehe. Everyone was also commenting how good the prawn salad was, even our western colleagues! Hanggang ngayon iniisip ko pa rin at sana makakain uli ako don hihihi.

↑ Prawn salad – not sure if it’s the correct name but this is so yummy!

Overall, it was a productive week for the group.

I stayed home on Saturday to rest again and do some household chores aka laundry (again) because I am running out of work clothes (again).

On Sunday, a friend and I went to Tesoro’s Handicrafts in Makati to buy tickets for the International Bazaar 2017 which is happening on Sunday, November 26 at the PICC.

↑ Our ticket!

We had lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings in Glorietta. I think my stomach has issues with chicken wings of those types. Yesterday was the second time I experienced stomach problems after eating chicken wings. I am not sure if it’s because of the flavors or how it’s cooked because I don’t get the same from for instance Jollibee chicken wings haha. Choosy masyado ang tyan ko ata.

↑ I forgot to take pictures of the food sa sobrang gutom hehe.

I went to mass then dropped by the derma for an appointment.

I was also lucky that a therapist was available last night so I had 2 hours of a badly needed massage.

The end.

Have a great week ahead.

Pahabol na kwento: A former colleague who had lupus and has been frequently in and out of the hospital for the past 3 years is now gone. So sad especially for his wife and young kids but at least no more pain for him. His youngest is my godson. Don ko naramdaman na the kid is now partly my responsibility bilang inaanak ko sya. When I shared this to another friend, ganon din pala yung naramdaman nya nung namatay din ang kumpare nya.

Rest in peace, pare.

Grabe talaga ang buhay. So unpredictable. We just have to make the most out of it.

2017 Week 46: Weekend with Friends and Kids

November 6-12, 2017

Because I am writing about this week 2 weeks later, I don’t remember all the details hehe.

On November 10, we went to a potential vendor’s office to observe their operations. Theirs is a family business, so we also met the dad and the sister. But they already have a handful of clients. Good news is that our project sponsors felt comfortable with what they saw and so hopefully we can now move on with the next steps of the project.

On November 11, a friend and I attended a 1st birthday party in Jollibee. After the party, we went to her place because another friend and her family is visiting her. We had dinner of pasta, lechon, and rice. We had melona and snickers ice cream (I didn’t know about this until that day hehe) for desserts. We also had some drinks that night. Mostly cold, and so when I woke up the next morning, I had sore throat hahahaha. I guess it was also triggered by the 3 consecutive nights where I had lesser hours of sleep.

On Sunday, I met up with another fried for lunch. We went to Italianni’s because she has a voucher for the restaurants under the Bistro group hehe.

↑ Spinach and Artichoke Formaggio

↑ Sicilian salad

↑ Chicken Italianni’s

After lunch, we went to a Honda dealer to check out the BR-V. Ang guapo ng sasakyan. While it’s 7-seater, it’s not still enough for a big family hehe. Pero mostly single driving, ok sya. I’m not the one buying. It’s my friend who’s considering now. Ako, mga few years more pa as I have other priorities at the moment.

From Honda, we went back to Shang for some snacks/dessert at the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. Yes, sugar overload. The desserts are expensive though, so I don’t think I’m going back here soon.

↑ Green apple coated with chocolate

↑ Cheesecake coated with chocolate

My friend went to her next appointment while I stayed a little longer for some shopping for personal items. I went home after for a much needed rest as I am not yet feeling better at this point.

The end.

2017 Week 45: Baguio and Manila Errands

October 30 – November 4, 2017

October 30

My brother said he wanted to see the tiles that I was eyeing so that we can have a better estimate on how many pieces should be purchased. And so off we went back to the tile center on Monday.

We also dropped by a shop that specializes on glasses for quotations on the following: glass top for the dining table, sliding glass door to separate the shower area and toilet in the bathroom as I don’t want to use a shower curtain, glass doors for the bookshelves, and bathroom mirrors. And it’s expensive. Everything is expensive hahahaha! So, I need to prioritize which one to get first. I’m guessing it should be the sliding door hehehe but this is the most expensive of them all nyahahaha!

↑ Quotations for the sliding glass door, glass top, and book shelf door. Parang glass top lang ang mabibili ko for now hahahaha. Yung book shelf kasi, 3 na ganon ang kailangan ko eh wahahahaha. Tapos yung sliding door, ganon din talaga kamahal?! Kaloka! Pero bet ko pa rin hihihi.

Next stop was lunch at Good Taste, as always hehe.

After a super late lunch, my niece and I continued with our canvassing tasks while my brother went to the wet market to buy stuff for November 1.

My niece and I went to a furniture shop to check out customized cushion and seat cover for my simple sofa. They quoted us with almost Php 6K for the materials and service. 6K?!!!! That’s almost as good as buying a new sala set, I think. I just need the damn cushions with removable seat cover so that I can launder it once in a while. Kaloka. I tried to ask a tailoring shop if they sew cushion covers. Yes daw. I just need to provide the cloth. Php 250 per piece for the sewing service eh I only have 2 pieces because the foam I want is a rectangular one, one for the seat and one for the backrest. Hah! So off we went to shops that sell cloth. Average per yard for seat covers is at Php 200.00. Next was to check Uratex foams hehe. After computing, I’ll spend almost Php 6K for a foam, 2 sets of seat cover, and 1 queen size 3-inch Uratex foam that is good for 2 sofas. Ayan, semi-DIY na nga lang hehe. I’ll check Divisoria for the cloth.

This year, I’ll be more generous with my gifts to my young nieces, nephew and grandchildren. I’m getting them several items from their wish list which I asked them to put together. I want them to have at least 3 gifts to open on Christmas hehe. Our family is not really into gift-giving because of budget constraints. But it’s also nice to have them experience it  at home once in a while. And so before going home this day, my niece and I went to SM to start scouting for potential gifts. We were able to buy a few items so yey for that. Let me just say that it’s really more challenging to shop for boys than for girls. Or sadyang hirap lang ako dahil sa limited budget ko hahaha!

We went to McDonald’s for dinner and went home after.

October 31

I lazed around the whole morning and then I spent the rest of this day wrapping the gifts that I already bought. I used old newspapers as wrappers tutal pupunitin rin lang naman if bubuksan hehe.

November 1

Undas. We cooked a little and us siblings gathered at our parents’ home for lunch. We also lighted candles, offered prayers and flowers. No cemetery visits for us because as practiced by our elders, our loved ones who passed away are usually buried in our backyards.

For the past days that I went to town, my niece and grandchildren always watched me get ready so they were pestering me to put some make up on them too. I’m not an expert. CC cream, powder, lipstick lang naman. Minsan konting ayos ng kilay pag sinipag. Pero gusto rin daw nila so sige pagbigyan. And pictorial after hehehe.

↑ Niece.

↑ Grandchild 1

↑ Grandchild 2. We were laughing here because I asked her to crisscross her legs and she kept on almost falling hahaha!

↑ Kanya-kanyang posing na gaya-gaya rin hahaha. Same shades used on all 3 because I don’t have a make up collection ya know. Hehe.

↑ The serious nephew. Medyo wala sa mood na dito hahaha!

It was time to go back to Manila in the evening. I requested the BF to meet me at the terminal so we can spend even just an hour or 2 before I leave for Manila. We had dinner at Andoks to kill time.

Weekend

I went to my colleague’s salon for a rebond. To be honest, I already want to stop it but the unruly hair can’t be tamed. Ang hirap ayusin hahaha. So let’s see again after 1.5 years hehe.

I also went to the mall to continue with my shopping. I was able to buy shoes for the nephew. Ang mahal to think na naka-sale sya huhuhu. But that is fine. There may be an event next year where he’ll need leather shoes so at least he’s ready hahaha.

I also dropped by the grocery to replenish the ref.

The end.

And done with my backlog hehe. Have a great week ahead.
