Going Around Baguio: Day 2

Day 1: April 28, 2017

Lakwatsa date: April 29, 2017

Today is not all touristy stuff. My tita, cousin and I met to go visit an ailing aunt.

Pit stops for the day:

*** Breakfast at Jack’s Mabini. Aside from Good Taste, we also love to dine at Jack’s for its affordable but flavorful meals. They have several branches in Baguio, one even along Session Road where we ate last month during the food trip with the nieces, but my tita wants the one in Mabini because they have bbq chicken which is not available in other branches.

*** Pacdal to visit aunt. Unfortunately, we did not know that yesterday was her scheduled dialysis so she was not at home.

*** Dropped by SM because my tita wants to check out those flowers on display. I went inside to use the restroom. However, I learned that there is an additional 10% discount when you pay or at least on line, about to pay on or before 12 noon.

Naloka ako! Nagmadali kong hinanap yung gustung-gusto kong lunch bag. It has 10% discount, plus another 10%! And then I found out that it has a lunch box, bottled water and spoon and fork pala when you buy it. Kaya pala ganon kamahal – Phhp 950.00. Nung una ko kasing nakita, akala ko, yung bag lang so sobra talaga syang mahal.

I walked around first pero binalikan ko kasi gusto ko talaga sya eh. The final amount  I paid after the discount was Php 688.5. If you remove the price of the lunch box and water bottle, below Php 500.00 na ang lunch bag alone, which is similar to the other bags I saw but didn’t like hihi.

Lock and Lock Lunch bag

*** Dropped by Porta Vaga to go to Assi Mart, a Korean grocery. My tita buys her tea there. I bought 1 box too. I also saw a cheese flavored ramen hehehe. I bought one so I can try it. Mahal lang. Php 65.00.

Korean tea

Ramen with Cheese! Update: I had this for lunch on Sunday and I made the mistake of putting all the sauce in the noodles. It was so spicy for my liking. I let it cool first before eating.

*** Went to Orchidarium again because my tita wants to check out the cactus. And fortunately for her, she was able to buy 1 bulb of Stargazer for only Php 100.00. It was a bargain because the shop got it from a plant whose stem broke during delivery. The other shop sells 1 bulb for Php 200.00.

*** Went to Good Taste for late lunch. Winner talaga ang lechon beans nila! And the cucumber lemonade.

*** We passed by one side of Burnham Park to look for strawberry taho. Waley. Baka sa umaga lang sila don at cooking time sa hapon hahahaha.

*** End of bulakbol with them. I went to Marbay to pick up the blouses I had altered yesterday. Hirap ng unproportional body. Doble gastos hahaha.

Going Around Baguio: Day 1

Lakwatsa date: April 28, 2017

My friend and I did some touristy stuff, mainly food trip, around Baguio. Our initial target was those away from the city but we were not ready with a list and it was already lunch time when we met in town so we just chose random restaurants and cafes.

Our pit stops:

*** Sizzling Plate for lunch

Fillet Mignon – between Php 230.00-250.00. We also ordered the Php 25.00 sansrival, but not in the picture.

*** Orchidarium near Burnham Park to check out all the beautiful flowers! I’m excited to start my own flower, herb and bonsai garden hehehe. No pictures as we were busy admiring and trying to name the flowers. Plus, some shops don’t allow picture taking or they do but with a Php 10.00 fee.

*** Camp John Hay. We wanted something cold and then we remembered John Hay so off to John Hay we went.

*** Checked out the overruns shops but we still find the items expensive and not really sure if overruns or class A.

*** Stopped by Little John for snacks.

Fresh mango and strawberry fruit shakes and potato wedges with bacon bits.

*** We were craving for some cakes so we walked up one of the hilly parts to look for Ayala Techno hub.

Enjoying the breezy climate while walking the challenging steps going up hehehe. Hingal much.

Trying to capture the sunset. And I didn’t notice the moon was also up there!

End of life. This may be a typhoon casualty.

*** Everything Nice at Ayala Techno hub

Carrot cake and Italian cheesecake. Prices around Php 90.00 to 110.00.

*** We also saw Pizza Volante still at Ayala Techno hub and can’t resist their pizza!

Both vegetarian pizza. Less than Php 100.00 for solo (6 inches).

*** Last for the night was Cafe by the Ruins Dua near the Victory Liner FVR terminal.

Bounty salad. We loved everything except the watercress because of the slight bitter taste. I still want my watercress sauteed in garlic.

Let me just add the cucumber lemonade we had at Good Taste today. I love the taste. However, I learned from one of servers that it’s a powdered juice. Still artificial pala. But it’s refreshing still!

Cucumber lemonade

Until our next food trip hehehe. Next time, we’ll really target the once we haven’t tried yet.

Home Again

April 28 is a special holiday in Metro Manila due to the ASEAN summit. May 1 is also a holiday, making this another long weekend!

I reported to work early today because my ticket reservation is at 2 PM.

There are a few errands this long break. I brought home some work too but that’s fine.

I had baby back ribs and red velvet cake for dinner earlier this evening at Vizco’s, before heading home.

Soft, juicy and flavorful baby back ribs! Php 245.00 if I remember correctly.

Red velvet cake this time. Yummy too! Between Php 90.00-110.00.

Thank you Lord for a flexible work schedule which allows me to come home earlier.

Please guide the ASEAN country leaders as they get together for the summit. May they find common grounds for a peaceful relationship towards building a progressive nation. Amen.

PLDT myDSL Application Update 1

As I mentioned here, I applied for a PLDT myDSL Internet last Saturday. I availed Plan 1299 with 3Mbps but unlimited data volume. This is similar to my friend and she says it’s fast.

I received a text message from PLDT yesterday  informing me of my account number and that I need to pay the initial fee of Php 2,300.00 as I opted for a one-time payment for the installation and WIFI modem.

Since I am too lazy to go out and look for a PLDT office or bayad center, I called their customer service hotline to inquire if I can pay via online banking. The agent said yes, hence, Php 2,300.00 paid.

Now waiting for their next update. I think it will already be installation. However, it’s a long weekend so maybe that will be by next week already.

2017 Week 17: Weekend Malling and Shopping

April 17-23, 2017

It was my brother’s birthday yesterday. Belated happy birthday kapatid!

Work has been generally peaceful, or so I thought. The storm came on Sunday, which did not allow us to sleep the whole night. Come Monday, bangag what else. KJ talaga. We can’t afford NOT to fix it because it affects Payroll. Soooo…..puyat kung puyat.

Pero nakakapraning because a friend’s ex- officemate collapsed last Friday in their office. She was brought to the hospital but she did not survive. The reason? They were so stressed the passed weeks because of an event. They were required to render extended work hours and report the next day on their usual work hours. Puyat + pagod + maybe other health issues = stressed much. And then here we were on Sunday….So guys and myself, wag abusuhin ang katawan kahit feeling natin kaya natin. Better be safe than sorry.

Anyway, weekend.

I went out on Saturday to apply for a PLDT myDSL subscription. I was thinking of not getting one anymore after my previous internet provider conked out due to obstruction in the area but I think I still need to have a connection at home. While I can use my phone, it’s still unstable and if work calls, I don’t want to rush to the office just to have stable connection. So there, hopefully, my application will be approved.

I met up with my friend because she wants to chill after learning what happened to her officemate. Actually, she came from the funeral parlor before we met and she wanted to shake off some bad vibes. We went to Chilli’s for some nachos, soup, salad and unlimited margarita.

On Sunday, I went to mass early and then proceeded to Baclaran after to get some goodies to be sold by my sister-in-law. I wasn’t able to buy briefs. Wala akong makitang maganda. Di ko na mahanap si nanay na pinagbilhan ko months ago.

I went to Megamall after to look for office blouses. Unfortunately, some of my blouses need to retire because while they are still usable, most of them are already showing wear and tear. Mga 3-5 years old na rin kasi mostly. Luckily, those that I found were on 20% discount.

I met with my friend again and we went to S&R this time. It was the last day of my membership yesterday and I wanted to buy the Ariel 3KG and Muesli before my card expires as I don’t have plans of renewing it this year hehehehe. Di ko kasi nasusulit naman at nakakatempt lang gumastos.

Then ayun nga, Sunday to sawa, work work work work work para sa ekonomiya. Pak!

Btw, sino excited na sa additional April 28 holiday?! Syempre isa ako don dahil more days to sepnd in Baguio again at magbutingting ng kung ano sa bahay.

Have a great week ahead.

Bow.

Clam chowder. This was sooo good. I’ll try to make one at home hehehehe. Masarap ang mga soup lalo na sa Baguio.

Salad – greens with chicken, potato strings and cheese.

Unlimited margarita. Cheers!

Peace Be With You

While I am excited for 2018, I am also afraid of a lot of things right now, especially on the decisions I need to make on the coming months. There will be a lot of changes. What I fear the most is that I won’t be able to find the work opportunity similar or at least close to what I have now. I dread this the most because how will I be able to start a family if work opportunities back home are scarce? Let’s face it. Building a family, no matter how frugal you are, will still require a certain income to meet the basic needs of a family. But still I really want to raise that family, by God’s grace, in my hometown.

Today’s gospel is when Jesus visited the disciples who locked themselves in a room for fear of the Jews. In that visit, He said peace be with you.

This is the Lord saying that we should not be afraid because He will always be in control. When the priest mentioned this, I was a little pacified. I just prayed fervently for the Lord to guide us in all decisions we’ll do as these will all be crucial for our future. And I am lifting it all to Him to take control.

Sigh. Adulting is hard sometimes.

SK Update: Dining Table and Chairs

Background muna. Except for the 3 beds, the kitchen cabinets, and an unfinished dining table, my home doesn’t have any furniture. Mono-bloc chairs lang kung matatawag mang furniture yun hehehehe. I don’t have a sala set, clothes cabinet, book shelves, TV rack and whatever else that should be in a house to at least keep it organized. There was really no major improvement after I had it blessed in 2013.

And so in 2017, I commit to make more improvements in my Baguio home (aka SK Baguio) as soon as saved budget permits.

Improvement #1:

I now have non-mono-bloc dining chairs. My brother made them during his free time. We have been using them since late February I think and I’m loving them so far.

In fairness, pulido ang pagkakagawa. OC rin kasi ang kapatid ko pagdating sa mga projects nya hehehe. Galing-galing.

The dining table was made by my father. Awww I think this was his last project for me. Huhu. Anyway, I think the pine wood used was donated by an uncle. Galing pa yan sa lugar ng nanay ko ata. The titos knew I was on tipid mode because of all my loans those days so naawa ata at dinonate na lang yung wood hahaha.

The table did not have varnish though so my brother also did the finishing to match the chairs.

Chairs

Chairs on the making

SKDining

Tada! The finished product. While my dining area is small, I still love staying here because it is beside a window with a view of trees and mountains.

I am not sure of the cost because materials were purchased separately, plus those we bought were not consumed just for these pieces. Wala pa akong time (and tyagang) mag-break down and compute for now hihi. For my brother’s labor, he’s requesting that I buy him one of the main tools he’ll use for all the furniture so that we don’t need to borrow from the other brother. Besides, all tools from cousins/brother/friends are always in use. Sayang ang time!

Until the next house project! We already have several furniture lined up. I’ll just post them once done but so far, here’s what’s in my list which are my priorities.

Priorities which hopefully will be completed this year.

How to Post to a Self-Hosted Site Using the WordPress Mobile App

Trying to post using the WordPress mobile app.

If there is a mobile app for WordPress.com, there should also be one for self-hosted WordPress sites, right? Right.

But it’s not actually a separate app. You can use the mobile app for both .com and your self-hosted site.

How? By using the Jetpack plugin.

Here’s what I learned should be done. I’ve watched 2 tutorials in YouTube too.

  1. Download the WordPress mobile app.
  2. You should have an account in WordPress.com. If none yet, go ahead and sign up.
  3. Install Jetpack plugin. You will do this in your self-hosted site’s admin site, and not in the WordPress.com site. It requires version 4 and up so update your version if needed.
  4. Activate the Jetpack plugin.
  5. You need to approve access of WordPress.com to your site (or maybe it’s the other way around). I cannot remember the button that shows up as per the video. In my case, I was logged in to WordPress.com at the time I clicked on Activate button so I was right away redirected to the Approve button. You need to approve that so that your site will be listed in WordPress.com.
  6. When you login to the mobile app, you can now see your site, as shown below.

I am still in the discovery phase. Like right now, I can’t find the full justify option hehe.

But I’m glad I now have this as another way to publish my posts.

Mobile app!

Dear Mama #4 – Happy Birthday in Heaven

Dear Mama,

If you were still here, today would have been your 69th birthday. But anyhow, happy birthday still. I miss you and Daddy. Lagi naman.

I have news for you. Ibulong ko na lang pag-uwi ko uli. Please continue being my angel, especially now that I would again be adulting much much more. Daming ganap, hirap magdecide hehehe.

Anyway, happy birthday again!

2017 Week 16: Holy Week Break

April 10-16, 2017

Happy Easter!

I was still on SL on Monday so I just went to work on Tuesday and Wednesday.

I left Manila for Baguio on Wednesday at 2 PM. Late na ako sa 30 minutes policy ni Joy Bus, pero late din kasi ang bus nila kaya siguro pinagbigyan ako hahaha. Pero pag siguro hindi late ang bus nila, naku siguro naiwan na ako!

A childhood friend was going back to Canada and he was having a despidida party that night. I was still undecided during the whole trip. But when I learned that my other friend was dropping by, we arranged to meet at 8 PM and go together to my other friend’s house. I reached Baguio at 7 PM and went to SM to buy some stuff because I forgot my Baguio cabinet key in Manila hehehehe.

We reached their place past 9 PM because it was hard to get a taxi grrr. It was good to see my friend looking healthy (he had health issues last year) and it was good to see him again! While we only chatted for a few minutes, it was good to reconnect with him and the rest of the people from my childhood who were also there.

Thursday was meant for doing nothing. My nieces came and played at home all day so my home was filled with happy shrieks (and sometimes cries hehehe). I just let them be. Ginawa lang namang swimming pool ang sala ko hahahaha.

On Friday, my niece wanted to bake so we went to the grocery for the ingridients. It was just a very quick trip given it was Good Friday.

My brother and I also discussed all the furnitures I want made this year. We took measurements of the areas so that we know the custom sizes of the furniture. I thought it will be just a simple task but it took us 3 hours to finish discussing and getting measurements for 6 furniture (seat, table, cabinets). I can’t wait for these pieces to be completed para naman mas magmukhang bahay ang kingdom ko hehehehe.

On Saturday, we hiked Mt. Cabuyao. I have a separate post here.

From Mt. Cabuyao, we went to a cousin’s house for her despidida party. Yes, another despidida hehehe.

My trip back to Manila was April 17 12:30 AM so I decided to just attend the afternoon Easter mass. I did some cleaning in the morning. The kiddos were in the house again. I just told them to stay in one of the rooms so as not to interrupt what I was doing.

There were a lot of shouting. I also sometimes shout when I correct their Filipino terms. I need to, otherwise they won’t hear me because of their combined loud voices hahaha.

After mass, the BF and I went to Good Taste for dinner. In the 4 days that I was at home, this was the only time we met. The Holy Week is one of his busiest so I stay out of his way as long as I can hihihi.

Some pictures!

Nieces2

Swimming daw. That’s my empty living room!

Nieces3

Hats on a hot day.

RM-04.16.2017

Dinner at Good Taste. This was the only picture we had that night because we were discussing serious matters aka future plans. And no, we did not plan on wearing blue at the same time. Lastly, we did not eat everything. There were a lot of leftovers for take out. 😛 😛 😛

And that wraps up my Holy Week break.

Thank you, Lord for the time spent with family and friends during this break. Please continue to guide me as I decide for what I want in my future. Guide me so that the decisions I make are based on the plans you have for me. Amen.
