2017 Week 22: Vendor Sessions | Movies

May 22-28, 2017

Work

One of the projects I’m working on requires a vendor. Last week, we were able to meet with all the vendors for their discovery sessions. It was a brain draining activity but it it also interesting to see how the different vendors showcase their solutions.

Like for one vendor, I was hesitant to shortlist them at first because aside from being expensive , I think their product won’t fit all of our requirements. However, after a second session with them, I changed my mind. Of all the solutions we saw, theirs might be the most robust and configurable, well at least based on how they answered our questions.

There was another vendor who I want to drop from the list early on but the boss of the boss said to still invite them. Ayun, I’m still not convinced, and even the stakeholders did not feel confident about them.

Because of these activities, meetings were held at the stakeholders’ offices, depending on where they’ll be reporting that day. And so on Thursday, we found ourselves traveling all the way to Alabang Town Center. My oh my, I love the place! The roads leading to the building were lined with trees!

But of course I don’t want to report there on a daily basis because for sure, commuting will be a challenge. We booked Uber (thanks, boss!) and our fare was Php 555.00, inclusive of toll fee. Imagine, more expensive than a 1-way fare to Baguio hahaha! So, no. Sana hindi kami ilipat doon.

I was also in Worldwide Corporate Center on Wednesday and Friday. I had dinner at Coffee Project. The place has pretty decors. I’m not just sure how I feel about the fake flowers hehehe.

I ordered sardines pasta and I think caramel vanilla frappuccino (I think). The pasta is good but I think it’s expensive at Php 180.00. The serving though is bigger than the usual single orders in other restaurants.

Dinner is served. Yum.

Daming ganap last week.

Weekend

Because I wanted to relax a bit, I checked with my friend if she wanted to watch a movie. She said yes so we met at Megamall in the evening. We watched Dear Other Self and Pirates of the Caribbean.

While I like Jodi, I think the story did not depict a true-blue travel blogger hahaha. Basta medyo ilang beses kaming napa-comment ng “Akala ko ba travel blogger sya?” Hehehe. But we were there for entertainment so we got it.

We watched the Pirates at the Director’s Club. Yes, those with reclining seats. And yes, ubusan ng allowance ito hahaha. But we enjoyed nonetheless so dildil asin na lang to compensate hahaha. I thought I was going to sleep because of the comfy chairs but the movie kept me awake until the end. At least di nasayang binayad ko hahaha.

The rest of the weekend was spent doing the usual household chores.

The end.

Have a great week ahead.

2017 Week 21: I Survived | Team Building

May 15-21, 2017

There were a lot of things going on at work that made me so nervous this work week. For one, I was asked to give a talk to not one but 2 schools last week, on the same day.

Second, I had to meet with some of the senior leaders for a project that I’m handling. Nerve-wracking but I’m glad that’s over and we’re on to the next steps. Hoping that the next meetings will be easier.

Weekend

It was our team building last Saturday. We went to Phillip’s Sanctuary in Antipolo, Rizal. The place is big. There were a lot of people but the place is big enough to accommodate a big group.

The good thing about the place is that, there are facilitators to for each team to guide you with the activities. It’s really an opportunity to build rapport with your teammates. But the activities really require physical strength.

We were grouped into 2, 11 members each. We had an ice breaker and whoever wins, gets a 2-minute advantage. Our group lost hehe.

We played about 7 games. Straight. The only breaks we got were when we drank water, waiting for the others to complete the game, or walking to the next game venue. Walang patawad ang facilitator hahaha.

After we completed all the games and scores have been tallied, the facilitator announced the winner. The other group won by less than a minute. However, if they did not have the 2 minutes advantage at the start, we would have been the winners. But that’s fine. It’s the memories, especially the funny ones, that are more important hahaha.

The rest went for swimming after lunch. The others just played cards. There are other activities to do. Some have additional payments. But since we were too tired after all the games, most of us took a nap in the rooms.

Our package was for an overnight stay but some of us went back to Manila in the afternoon, myself included. Which was a good decision because that was really tiring. All my fats were shocked with all the activities yesterday so everything’s uncomfortably aching now. Therefore, I stayed home today and almost did nothing, except for the testing that I’m doing in between this post. Whew.

I don’t have a lot of pictures because I left my phone in the room.

Fruit bearing mango trees and sometimes mangoes just fall off the trees.

Our accommodation

I was seated in a swing. Had the opportunity for a very short me-time while we were waiting for our room to be vacated.

Guest Speaker, What?!

Last Tuesday, May 16, I had the opportunity to speak in front of incoming 4th year college students and graduating students. It was my first time to do it. I didn’t want to accept it at first because I tend to get nervous during small meetings, what more with a larger audience who are strangers too!

However, my boss can’t make it so she had to delegate.

Worst, her college alma mater was also inviting her to give a talk on the same day. I was begging her to just send me to one and she handle the other but it wasn’t possible. If I don’t accept, I would have to give my next availability. Patay.

With no choice, I said ok. Plus, I realized that since this is a talk, I should be in a corporate get up. My wardrobe is limited. Wait, let me correct that. I don’t have a dress that is corporate enough. Blazer too. None. Wala. Nada. So I need to buy. And to limit the unforeseen expenses, just accommodate both requests on the same day hahaha!

Anyway, I was asked to talk about career opportunities for IT graduates. And so to give them as close to reality as possible, I talked about our team and what we do. That’s dual purpose. I met the required topic and I was able to sell (I hope) our team given that we need additional headcount now.

Lessons / realizations:

  1. It’s not as scary as I thought. Hah! But maybe it’s because I am familiar with the topic. I just reviewed the presentation deck shared by my boss early Tuesday and the rest was just really how the team functions.
  2. There are many types of audiences. Some interested and are listening intently, some don’t care, some I don’t know if they understand what I’m talking about. But I would like to think that most of them are listening because they react at the right time hahaha.
  3. I need to practice walking in front while discussing. I think I was stiff because I did not move a lot hihihi.
  4. I can smile the entire time and maintain an enthusiastic delivery but it’s a constant reminder to do those while I was talking. Most of the time in the office, I tend to get serious, hence, always misinterpreted as masungit.
  5. It’s fun interacting with students! Most of my audience were boys gentlemen so they were the typical sutil college students.
  6. It’s good to know that schools make an effort to bring in industry partners to talk to their students. That way, students can have a glimpse of the workplace and hopefully this can help them prepare for the real world.
  7. I need to have many stories because it’s easier I guess to hold the audience’s attention with stories.
  8. I am now comfortable wearing dresses. Some may think what the heck but this is a big deal to me because it was really a struggle for me to be comfortable in dresses. That goes back to as early as kindergarten hahaha.
  9. Lastly, if I got pregnant early, that child would be close to finishing college by now hahaha.

I was introduced as a guest speaker and I was shocked and confused hahaha. Pero oo nga naman pala. Guest speaker nga pala talaga pag mga ganon. Pasensya na, first time hahaha.

One of our HR Sourcing team was with me. She took care of a quick ice breaker / pampagising activity plus a question and answer game.

I also learned a few things from the speaker before me too. One of which is to never stop learning. True naman.

Overall, it was fun and enriching. If given another chance, most likely I’ll accept it without being too nervous this time hahaha.

Certificate!

I don’t know how to blur the other faces so I resorted to this to at least minimize visibility because I really want to post this picture for remembrance. Peace, kids! 🙂

2017 Week 20: Friday Night Out | Shopping

May 8-14, 2017

Happy Mother’s Day to our mother angel in heaven.

We had an issue last week so it was another long and stressful Monday-Tuesday.

The other project I’m handling needs to be delivered ASAP and so we need to engage and choose vendors as quickly as we can.

Last Friday, I was asked to represent our team in one of the recruitment events tomorrow. So instead of being chillax on Friday, I was jittery and nervous and nauseous hahaha. Therefore, I asked a friend that we go out for a drink after shift on Friday.

We went to The Black Boar in Kapitolyo Pasig because I wanted to try the chocolate beer but it was not available that night. Hayayay. We settled with beers, fries and chicken wings.

Saturday was for household chores. I met with another friend in the evening to shop for a more corporate looking clothes heh.

On Sunday, another friend and I met in late afternoon for mass and some more window shopping. Plus she was buying a heavy item so she needs help in carrying it. We also had dinner  at Pepper Lunch before heading home.

The end.

Have a great week ahead.

P.S. Dear Lord, please help me get through this week especially with all the stuff that needs to be done at work. Thank you.

2017 Week 19: Garden Hopping and Other Stuff

May 1-7, 2017

I traveled back to Manila on May 1. But before that, super quick dinner muna with the BF sa tabi-tabi (aka Rufo’s) because it’s in the terminal.

Matic na sa kanya to take pictures of us bago pa ako magrequest hehehe.

By Friday, my internet has been installed. Yehey! I have separate posts about my application here and here.

Then the rest of the week was work work work work work until weekend again hahaha!

Weekend

My friend and I went out on Saturday for several reasons.

We wanted to visit National Planetarium but failed to get in. Bakit? Kasi we arrived there almost 12 PM na ata. Mahaba na ang pila. Buti na lang, the staff gave us an estimated hour na potentially makakapasok kami. Potentially lang because that still depends on how long people will stay inside. 4 PM na raw kami. We don’t want to wait that long so we aborted the plan. Some other time maybe.

Our next stop was Cedarhills Garden Center in Mo. Ignacia, Quezion City. I read about it somewhere and got interested. They sell mostly herbs, some flowers, fertilizers, and tools for the garden. I was a little sad though because some of the plants were wilting because of the summer heat!

Forget-me-not which I bought from Cedarhills. I hope I can grow them.

I like this bike-inspired plant stand for my own yard.

This too.

My friend remembered that Quezon City Memorial Circle also has shops that sell plants. So off we went. And we were happy with all the stuff we saw and wanted to buy! But we were a little frustrated because for some reason, both of us were not cash ready! Hehehe. But that’s fine. We can go back another day, and we’ll make sure we are ready!

One of the many giant trees at the QC Circle. I wonder how old this tree is. Sarap tumambay dito sabay tingala sabay muni-muni.

Ay there’s Max’s and other restaurants in QC Circle. We had lunch at Max’s.

Halo-halo for a super hot summer!

And I later on learned that there were food stalls near Circle Fun. We’ll check that out when we go back.

I was able to buy small Jade plants at 3 for Php 100.00. It’s Php 50.00 if you’ll only buy 1. I hope to be able to propagate those that I bought for my future orchidarium-type small yard in Baguio 🙂 🙂 🙂 . Yep, because of the visits to the Orchidarium last week, I got an idea on what I want to do with my small yard. I’ll start with collecting plants for now hehe.

My Jade plants. Please don’t die!

We also bought loam soil. Ang yabang namin nung unang hindi naman ganon kabigat pero nung bitbit na namin, aba mabigat pala hahaha. But we were able to sting bring it home, thanks to Uber.

We went to SM Megamall after, because there was a wedding expo. Unfortunately, most stalls were already closing for the night! Grabe di man lang kami sinabihang pasara na sila. Sayang ang Ph 50.00 na entrance fee namin. Anyway, lesson learned.

I was so tired on Saturday so I just stayed home to rest and do laundry on Sunday.

The end.

Hope you all are having a great week.
