2017 Week 4: A Quick Visit to Cavite

January 23-29, 2017

Weekend

Saturday was spent mostly at home and a few hours at the mall.I was looking for nude shoes but nothing caught my attention. However, I tried checking out the items on sale at Kickers and was able to score one that I like that’s discounted for 50% so I just paid Php 1,420.00. I know Kickers is expensive so I don’t normally check out this brand. But it’s good to know that they can give discounts as high as 50% because there is another pair that I tried but it’s more expensive so I did not buy it. Maybe some other time if I get lucky.

New shoes which I hope will last me for years. I have high expectations for this brand given that their normal prices are expensive.

On Sunday, a friend and I went to Cavite to attend our other friend’s son’s baptism. It was held the Holy Family Church at Lancaster New City. If I remember correctly, this was the location of the reality show “I Do” some years back.

Anyway, we got lost because we boarded the wrong bus at the South terminal plus the conductor forgot that the driver should drop us off somewhere along the way so that we can ride the correct bus. We had to go back via a mini bus (the conductor called it baby bus hehe). We eventually found the place.

However, because of the several transfers and the expensive tricycle fare goint to the chapel, we realized that it would have been better if we just took Uber.

The reception was at Kinamot Restaurant that’s also in Lancaster. We feasted on at least 5 Pinoy dishes. Busog lusog to the max. I liked the ambiance because it’s a picnic by the nipa huts.

We left right after lunch. This time, we tried Uber because all buses were full. Luckily, there was one available. While it’s more expensive, at least we were back in Manila by 3 PM.

We got off at MRT Taft and proceeded right away to Baclaran to buy some goodies.

We went home after for that much needed rest before another work week.

Discoveries
Healthy You Trail Mix

My search for a trail mix go years back when I was still so into hiking.

I cannot find any until recently at S&R. However, I did not like the one I bought.

Last week, I chanced upon Healthy You Trail Mix so I bought one to try.

HealthyYou1

I like this better because the nuts are unsalted hence, you won’t easily go thirsty. Plus I think it’s cheap at Php 180.75 for 450g. That’s less than Php 400.00 for close to 1 kl which is still cheaper than when you create your own trail mix.

It’s exclusively packed for Robinson’s Supermarket but I hope it will also become available on other supermarkets.

The end.

Have a great week ahead, or at least what’s left of this week hehe.

2017 Week 1: Back to the Daily Grind

January 2-8, 2017

Ok, so the holidays are over and so we’re back to the daily grind.

I traveled back to Manila on January 2. Thank you, Lord for a safe trip that night.

Work was just picking up from what we all left when most of us went for that much needed break on the last week of December.

I met with my friend’s family on January 3. They are based in SG now and are here for a visit. We ate at Gangnam Wings at SM Megamall. The store is located at the strip, Mega A side. It specializes on Korean fried chicken.

Our orders:

gangnam2

Fried chicken. I liked the chicken. It’s crispy but not too oily.

gangnam3

Spicy seafood noodle but we requested a less spicy version.

gangnam1

Watermelon with soju. This was refreshing. Good thing they did not mix the soju so we had control on the amount of alcohol to add to the watermelon hehe.

gangnam4

Rock melon bingsu. Fresh fruit and ice cream. Winner!

Weekend

My friend and I met up on Saturday to catch up on some of the MMFF movies. We watched Die Beautiful, Vince & Kath & James and Sunday Beauty Queen.

Paulo Ballesteros (Die Beautiful) would have been beautiful if he was a woman hehehe.

Vince & Kath & James was really for teens hahaha! It was also ok though. We enjoyed laughing at the crowd’s reactions. There were 2 groups who were quite loud. One is obviously rooting for Vince and the other one for James. While it can get irritating at times, we just had fun laughing at them because their reactions to some of the scenes can really be hilarious hehehe.

The most touching movie for me was Sunday Beauty Queen. This is a documentary about OFWs in Hong Kong. I have seen again that life is not really fair and it gets tough and tougher for some of us. Hence, we should always be thankful for all of our blessings, no matter how small these are.

I went to mass on Sunday and then to the mall as I need to replace some blouses and I was hoping to score some from the end of season sale. Mission accomplished as I was able to buy 3 blouses, which was my goal.

Next stop was the grocery for some supplies before going home.

The end.

Have a great week ahead.

2016 Week 52: Holiday Break Part 4

Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3

December 31 – January 1

Happy New Year!

Our new year was just low key. Lesser people than what we used to have in the past. But we still prepared a few dishes in case there are visitors on New Year’s lunch.

My niece will be joining a Math contest so I helped her review a little. Her reviewer contains all worded problems. Worded problems are now for Grade 1 students?! The questions are tricky that I cannot even get the correct answers on first attempt. Tsk tsk tsk.

I asked my brother to run to the grocery for the things we need the following day.

I went up to my sister’s place before 12 AM for the bonfire, bbq, hotdogs, marshmallows and fireworks watching. We don’t need our own fireworks display because a lot of our faraway neighbors take care of that hehehe. Thanks, neighbors! I did not take pictures anymore because I want to focus on just watching and enjoying those fireworks.

We siblings, except for my brother’s family in Tagaytay, gathered at my place on January 1 for lunch. My auntie, uncle and 2 of their kids joined us too. My cousin’s kid came over too.

I prepared salad. My other siblings prepared their own food and just brought it at my house for all of us to feast on.

I went out in the afternoon for mass but had to go home right away for fear that there will be no transportation available if I stayed out longer hehehe.

January 1 was spent eating, exchanging stories, sleeping and eating again hehehe.

Happy New Year again!

2016 Week 52: Holiday Break Part 3

Part 1 | Part 2

December 26, 2016 – January 1, 2016

December 30, 2016

We had a jam-packed schedule this day.

We went to Manila Ocean Park in the morning. Lucky for us, our company partnered with Manila Ocean Park for a promo of several of their packages. While they have their own promo, the one offered to our company was still cheaper at Php 450.00 for 6 attractions. Original price for this was Php 2,800.00. I didn’t know that Manila Ocean Park is this expensive already.

Anyway, our package includes the Sea Lion show, Shark and Rays Dry Encounter, Jellies Exhibit, Oceanarium, Trails to Antarctica (Penguin Exhibit, Snow Village) and the Symphony Evening show. We were not able to watch the evening show though because we left after lunch.

First in line for the Sea Lion Show

oceanpark8

Nanny to these kids..They were watching the penguins.

oceanpark9

Hello penguins! You can enter this enclosed area but you have to pay Php 500/3 pax and Php 100 for each additional pax. Medyo expensive so next time na lang.

oceanpark10

Resting

Next was Manila Zoo. Entrance for non-Manila residents – Php 100.00 for adults, Php 60.00 for children below 4 feet.

While it was nice to see all the animals in the zoo, we can’t help but feel pity for them because most of these animals should be in the wide open spaces. Plus, we think that they are not really taken cared of based on their looks.

Also, while it was nice to see an elephant in the flesh, I feel sad for Mali because he’s alone in his cage and he’s been like that for decades! I wish that they find a better place for him or that they improve his living space. It’s all concrete!

But despite these, it was still an educational trip especially for the kids.

manilazoo1

Our only picture at the zoo that’s in my phone hehehe.

We went home after Manila Zoo to rest a bit and complete our packing. But we went out again at around 6:30 PM to visit MERALCO’s Christmas lights display since it was just 20 minutes walk from the apartment.

meralco1

MERALCO’s setup is more sophisticated now as compared to when I visited it 2 or 3 years ago.

meralco2

The Holy Family

meralco3

Gaya-gaya :p

meralco4

Thank you, MERALCO!

By 10PM, we are already on our way to Victory Liner Cubao terminal in time for our 11:30 PM trip back to Baguio.

End of Manila – Tagaytay trip.

Special thanks to Uber and technology which allowed us to conveniently reach our destinations and without me having to worry whether the other group reached our destination as expected. We were 10 in the group, 11 at some point so I had to always book 2 cars. Expensive but nevertheless, this setup gave me peace of mind.

December 26, 2016 – January 1, 2017

Manila – Tagaytay Trip (December 27-30, 2016)

Last year, I, together with nieces, cousins, an aunt and uncle visited my brother in Tagaytay. It was a short trip but we really had a blast. Last November, I was contemplating on doing a repeat but was still undecided until mid-December because while it will be a blast, it will also be tiring and all I wanted to do during the break was to hibernate and do some errands for the house hehehe. But my other brother was also contemplating on bringing his family to Tagaytay and maybe visit Manila Ocean Park and Manila Zoo so we just did it.

The final cast: me, my 2 nieces, my brother, his wife, his 3 year old kid, my cousin’s 2 kids, my aunt, my aunt’s daughter.

We left Baguio on the night of December 27 and arrived in Manila at around 5 AM. We got down at Victory Liner Cubao so that I coud secure our tickets going back to Baguio for December 30.

December 28, 2016

We rested for a few hours at my apartment and then prepared again to go to Tagaytay. We reached Tagaytay before 1 PM and lunch was waiting for us hehehe.

We visited People’s Park in the Sky this time as most of the cast have not been there yet.

Our turn

My brother’s family. Yes, Gysher? Any problem?

tagaytay2016-6

Sunset as we were leaving People’s Park. So happy I was able to catch this!

We dropped by Starbucks San Jose after for our annual dose of frappuccino.

tagaytay2016-7

It’s hard to take a groufie at night. End result? Incomplete hehehe.

We went home for dinner. I asked my brother to just buy cow meat for bulalo which will serve as our viand for all meals at their home so that it would be cheaper. I was trying to cut as much cost as possible hehehe.

December 29, 2016

On December 29, we left Tagaytay at mid-morning. We had ube halaya with us courtesy of my brother and sister-in-law. Thank you!

tagaytay2016-8

Thank you, brader and mga ate! Sa susunod uli hehe.

We were already waiting for a bus when my brother mentioned that he needs a printer. I have mine which I have not used for more than 3 years and he can borrow it. He went back home and we asked him to bring along her daughter so that she can join us in Manila.

We were supposed to go to Manila Ocean Park but it was already mid-afternoon and I’m afraid we won’t be able to maximize our stay there.

The adults then went to Baclaran to check out some goods. I therefore conclude that it’s better to go there in the morning when most shops are open so that you’ll have more options to choose from.

We went to S&R Shaw after. I just want to show them the place, buy chicken for dinner and chocolates for New Year.

We went home to a crying 3 year old hehehe.

To be continued.
