2018 Week 3: New Housemates

January 15-21, 2018

Today, January 21, is our Dad’s 3rd anniversary in heaven. I asked the BF to offer petitions on his behalf during today’s mass at Divine Mercy. I think my siblings also lighted a candle for him at home.

My college nephew who stayed with me for a few weeks last year is back on training as part of their curriculum, hence he’s staying with me again, together with a friend this time. It’s a little challenging for me because I’m used to living alone but I have adjusted. And good thing that we don’t have the same schedules so I don’t have to worry with who gets to use the bathroom first hehehe. I had to rearrange the house early this week to accommodate all 3 of us without feeling cramped. Pero parang hindi ko na-achieve. Kebs na. Temporary lang naman.

My love for reading romance books is back. Well, I know it has always been in the background. It just took a backseat when I was so engrossed with all things online. I’m taking advantage by reading every chance I get and while I’m still in the mood. Last year, one of my goals was to read at least 6 fiction books. I think I was only able to read 2. At the rate I’m going this year, I think I’ll surpass my target last year. It may be double or triple the number.

I have a lot of e-books somewhere in my hard drive but nothing beats holding a real book and turning each page excitedly. One of these days, I’ll stop by a coffee shop and just read while taking coffee…that is…if I can force myself to get up and leave the house. Otherwise, I’m perfectly fine with curling up in the sofa and getting lost in the story.

So, obviously, I have been reading again this weekend, aside from taking care of the usual domestic chores.

↑This week’s read. This is a contemporary romance. Copyright 2016.

I went out on Saturday night for dinner because why not? Joke…walang laman ang ref ko kasi hahaha.

ContisBatangasAdobo

↑Conti’s Batangas adobo. Php 230.00 (if I remember correctly)

ChocolateCake

↑Choco overload cake at Php 145.00 per slice.

I dropped by at National Bookstore and was able to buy guess what? More books hehe.

NBSHaul

↑National Bookstore purchases last January 20, 2018.

On Sunday, I visited Skin Rejuve Clinic for some TLC for my face. Arte arte din pag may time. I attended mass after and then went malling for a few hours before dropping by the grocery to pick up some items before heading home.

I am sad that Elorde Starmall has already closed pala! Huhuhu! I was planning to go back to boxing sana. Nailabas ko na nga uli sa baul yung boxing gloves ko eh. Kaloka! Anyway, I’ll think of a plan B.

And while I was at Starmall, I saw a Booksale kiosk. Alam nyo na siguro kung anong nangyari hahaha!

BookSaleHaul

↑Book Sale haul on January 21, 2017. Let’s see how long I’ll be able to finish this. At the rate I’m going with 1 book per week, I should be able to finish everything that I bought this week in 12 weeks. I learned of Brenda Joyce in one of the forums before that’s why I hoarded her books today. Let’s see if I’ll also like it.

And that’s it.

Hope you’ll have  a great week ahead.

P.S. I hope that in 2 to 3 months time, I’ll be blogging how I lost some weight hahahaha! Kasi ang hirap talagang mag-umpisa eh hahahaha! So, good luck to me.

2018 Week 2: Back to Normal

January 8-14, 2018

We are busy at work organizing our 2018 project portfolio. It’s time consuming but we’ll get to the final list in time for sure.

One of my nieces (cousin’s daughter) is applying as an OFW. She started her application 4th quarter of last year so she comes to the apartment every now and then if she needs a place to stay. She was here again this week and I learned that she’s on the final stages of her application. She’ll be flying to the Middle East anytime soon. And so we went out for dinner last Wednesday. Pa-despedida ko na sa kanya in case we won’t be seeing each other again after.

We ate at Mama Lou’s Italian Kitchen at Ayala the 30th mall. We sampled two of their pasta and we loved it. The pasta were so flavorful.

↑Fried risotto balls for starters (risotto balls stuffed with mozzarella breaded then deep fried). Php 195.00. This is 6 pieces.

↑Penne Pesto Al Pollo (Zesty penne paired with grilled juicy chicken filet in basil and pine nuts pesto sauce). Php295.00

↑Vesuvio (mountain of rigatoni, stuffed with mozzarella, ricotta, peas, Italian meatballs and egg). Php 495.00

↑Good luck, baby girl. Go ahead, explore the world, and work for your dreams. You’ll always be in my prayers.

I also received more Christmas gifts hehehe.

↑From a thoughtful teammate (well partly because he took a long leave last December and I had to take care of some things on his behalf as the need arises. Suhol kumbaga hahahaha). Chocolates will always be love love love!

↑From our landlord. They also gave a bag last year and I have been using it since then especially if I need extra bags when going home. I’m sure this will be useful to me too.

The weekend was spent doing some household chores, reading (and finishing another book at that) and catching the final day of end of season sales hehe.

↑Another book done just over the weekend. Another love story hehe. At the rate I’m going, I need to retrieve my ebooks hehehe. But really, nothing beats the joy of turning each page in a book. I just bought this and another book this week. Let’s see if I’ll complete the other book next weekend hehe.

The end. Have a great week ahead!

P.s. Kailan ba ang next holiday?! Hahahaha!

2017 Week 43: Baguio Errands

October 23-29, 2017

Basic cardigans were on sale at H&M when I dropped by the store.

↑ These were on sale for Php 599.00 each from the original price of I think Php 799.00. Still expensive but the quality is good (hopefully) so I bought 3 in basic colors hehehe. I want the rest of the colors but I need to control myself from going overboard hahaha!

I took a leave on October 30, so I went home to Baguio early morning of October 28. Aside from October 30 being sandwiched with the holidays, I need more days to spend in Baguio form some errands.

October 28

We went to different construction shops to look for tiles, paints and bathroom fixtures. I am repainting my room and finally pushing through with the installation of my room’s bathroom hehe. After a million years, mayayari na rin! Ubusan nga lang ng pera. Huhu. Pero sige na para matapos na.

I saw some prospects and I was satisfied with all of them. I showed them to my brothers and they all agreed that those are good choices. Sana maganda rin kalalabasan once everything is installed.

↑ My companions that day. We were not able to finish the viand. I forgot to ask whether their servings are to share or for single order, hence the amount of food for 3 people hehe. We brought home the leftover.

↑ The fixtures that I’m eyeing.

↑ My peg for the bathroom’s wall tiles. These are a bit expensive but there were no other tiles calling me so as of this writing, this is what I’m getting.

October 29

Spent most of the time this day sorting through my things because I need to empty my more than 20 year old cabinet since I want to apply polyurethane varnish to it to preserve it. I had wall problems aka water seeping into my walls and my cabinet got wet so molds were forming. The saddest thing is that, most of the pictures I kept in that cabinet were ruined huhuhu. Those were my graduation pictures! Hay yay yay.

I also need to vacate my room and transfer all my things to the other room in preparation for the repainting. You see, 5 years ago, I made the mistake of painting my room with several colors hehe. I now find it too “busy” and not really relaxing, hence the change of heart. It’s expensive, but I want a room that has a more peaceful vibe. My chosen color now is whipple blue from Boysen/Titan. It’s bluish-gray in their catalog. I hope it’s as pretty when it’s already applied in the room. Crossing my fingers.

I went to attend mass in the afternoon, and then some quality time with the BF after. For a change, there was no need to rush to catch a trip back to Manila. And since we had the time, we went to John Hay this time! We had dinner at the Bistro at Hill Station and then coffee after at Starbucks.

↑ Busog lusog hehe!

The end.

2017 Week 34: Resting When I Can | Unstable Food Budget

August 21-27, 2017

Last Monday, August 21 was a holiday. I spent some hours cooking the vegetables I bought in Baguio. The rest of the day was spent just relaxing aka surfing the net.

Last Wednesday, I went to the grocery to pick up some items aka more kitchen appliances and kitchenware (steamer and Pyrex baking dish and mixing bowl because these were on sale) and roasted chicken for my packed lunch and dinner this week.

This is another long weekend but I just spent it in the apartment. I did some domestic chores on Saturday. The rest of the day was spent watching movies in Netflix. I’m taking advantage of the one month free access teehee.

After mass on Sunday, I dropped by the grocery store to buy some groceries again for next week’s packed lunch and dinner. I was able to steam the fish and vegetables. I have marinated the chicken and I’ll bake it tomorrow. In between cooking, I was also manning the washing machine. Talk about multi-tasking haha! It worked because I was done with both chores after 4 hours whew. The rest of the day was spent watching 2 movies again haha.

I was consistent in bringing packed lunch and dinner in the past two weeks, and I plan to do so as long as I can. However, I am always shocked every time I pay my groceries. It’s so expensive to buy everything in the supermarket. I wish there’s a nearer wet market in my place but there’s none. Therefore, I need to review and adjust my budget. I know I need to reallocate more for groceries now. I don’t know how much yet. Oh, I have an idea. I think it will help me if I record all I groceries for my meals every week. This will give me an average of how much I spend each week. Ok, yes, I’ll do that. This is also a practice for me in preparing a family budget in the future haha.

Steamer

↑ My new kitchen appliance. I’ve used it earlier to steam fish and okra.

Pyrex set 2

↑ This Pyrex set (baking dish and mixing bowl) was on sale at 30% off. I paid less than Php 1,300.00 for these 2 pieces.

Pyrex set 1

↑ Another Pyrex set (loaf dish and pie plate) on sale at 30% off. I paid less than Php 1,200.00 for these 2 pieces. I bought this two weeks ago, together with the oven.

DreamStove

↑ This is the gas range that I want. It’s stainless so no rusting as per sales agent. It’s expensive though. And all gas. I’m not sure if I should instead buy the model where it’s a combination of electric and gas. Which should I get? Need to research more.

Anyway, that’s it. Have a great week ahead.

2017 Week 31: Saturday Work | Oven Shopping

July 31 – August 6, 2017

Some of us had to go to work on Saturday because we are a bit delayed with the project. There are too many findings but I’d like to already deploy the system so that it’s out of our plates. Crossing my fingers for lesser bugs this week.

Weekend

My vacationing OFW niece came to Manila for some errand. Thanks to TNVS, I didn’t need to fetch her at the terminal. I just had to book and monitor to make sure that the route is towards the apartment and not somewhere else.

After mass on Sunday, we went to the mall to check out convection ovens. I just want to try to homecook my food and have some variety in food preparation. I’d like to have roasted chicken and vegetables, bake some cookies, cup cakes and baked mac and lasagna! I was with my friend and she let me promise her to make sure that I use the oven often hahahaha. Opo inay hahaha. I bought the Hanabishi 40L.

Hanabishi

My new kitchen appliance which I MUST maximize its use hehehe.

And let me just say that I am really a noob when it comes to baking hahahha. I don’t even know which basic pans and other baking stuff I need to buy hahahaha. My friend and niece helped me put together. So I also bought a mixing bowl, muffin pan, measuring cups, and lasagna and pie glassware from Pyrex. The items from Pyrex were bundled and on sale at 30% off. I’m planning to get the other glassware from Pyrex the next time they are on sale.

We also went to Dad’s for merienda. Since I am on a no-pork this month, I had limited options of what to eat. However, I was still full by the time we were done hehehe. Ang hirap magdiet talaga.

The end.

Have a blessed week ahead.

Peace,

Mylene
