2017 Week 33: Weekend in Baguio

August 14-20, 2017

I went home to Baguio last weekend for some family time.

I went out on Saturday with some of my nieces for some errands which I was not able to do in Manila.

We dropped by the grocery to buy some food.

We also dropped by Ace Hardware to check out their paints. I am planning to repaint my room but I can’t decide which color is best for the long term. I’m leaning towards blue/grey/bluish grey. There are many shades. I don’t know which shade I want.

I made the mistake of painting my room with several shades of blue and green. But the multicolored room is turning out to be not the best especially for small rooms. It just feels so “busy”. I want something that has a calming effect, hence the repainting plans. Plus, it looks dirty because of the sealer they’ve used before with cracked walls. I talked to my brother about it and fortunately, he learned something from a carpenter and there’s a remedy to conceal all those unsightly patches. Whew.

It was my grandchildren’s christening last Sunday and I was one of the sponsors. It was good to be home again after more than a month. The uncles and aunties were not complete but at least other cousins still joined us.

I made a quick trip to the hangar market to buy some vegetables – Baguio beans, potatoes, zucchini, broccoli. I wanted to buy more because it’s cheaper there but it was too heavy.

The BF and I had a short “we time” aka dinner before my trip back to Manila. I opted to return earlier even though it was a holiday on Monday to get some rest.

Enjoying her ride.

Someone’s enjoying the ride. Php 35.00 for around 3 minutes.

We time

Spending some quality time at Don Henrico’s.

The end.

Have a great week ahead.

2017 Week 31: Saturday Work | Oven Shopping

July 31 – August 6, 2017

Some of us had to go to work on Saturday because we are a bit delayed with the project. There are too many findings but I’d like to already deploy the system so that it’s out of our plates. Crossing my fingers for lesser bugs this week.

Weekend

My vacationing OFW niece came to Manila for some errand. Thanks to TNVS, I didn’t need to fetch her at the terminal. I just had to book and monitor to make sure that the route is towards the apartment and not somewhere else.

After mass on Sunday, we went to the mall to check out convection ovens. I just want to try to homecook my food and have some variety in food preparation. I’d like to have roasted chicken and vegetables, bake some cookies, cup cakes and baked mac and lasagna! I was with my friend and she let me promise her to make sure that I use the oven often hahahaha. Opo inay hahaha. I bought the Hanabishi 40L.

Hanabishi

My new kitchen appliance which I MUST maximize its use hehehe.

And let me just say that I am really a noob when it comes to baking hahahha. I don’t even know which basic pans and other baking stuff I need to buy hahahaha. My friend and niece helped me put together. So I also bought a mixing bowl, muffin pan, measuring cups, and lasagna and pie glassware from Pyrex. The items from Pyrex were bundled and on sale at 30% off. I’m planning to get the other glassware from Pyrex the next time they are on sale.

We also went to Dad’s for merienda. Since I am on a no-pork this month, I had limited options of what to eat. However, I was still full by the time we were done hehehe. Ang hirap magdiet talaga.

The end.

Have a blessed week ahead.

Peace,

Mylene

2017 Week 29: Losses | Unexpected Blessing | Weekend Malling

July 17-23, 2017

I received 3 news of deaths last week. One was my elementary classmate. We (his batchmates) have no idea until now what happened. We just learned of the news after his burial. He attended another classmate’s despidida last April. He left a few minutes after we arrived. I’m not sure if I’m thankful for that or what. Well at least I think the last time that we met years and years ago was for a happy occasion.

The other one is the death of a father’s high school friend. It was unexpected. I think I have met him several times because he would sometimes pick up my friend in school.

The third is the father of a college friend. He has been sick and been in the hospital since early July. I wish I learned earlier so that I could have visited.

I asked my niece to be the one to meet these friends to hand over a little help. Good thing she was able to talk to both friends. If there is one thing I learned from losing my own parents, it’s that all the condolences, hugs, and prayers matter a lot to the grieving family. If you cannot be there physically, a simple private message is still a big help.

To my friend and uncles, may you all Rest In Peace. Please continue guiding and protecting the family you left behind.

On to happier things.

I was surprised when my boss had some papers for me to sign last Monday. Weeee. Alam na this! I was not expecting it. Nothing big but still appreciated. Two-thirds will go to investments and the one-third will be for wants or project BD.

Weekend

A friend and I spent Saturday at the mall. We had lunch at Tenka. We were able to avail of the discounted rate from Metro Deal. We love the food but we have never been satisfied with Tenka’s slow service, missed orders plus the staff’s mood. It looks like everyone is already tired to think that they just opened for the day. It was still a happy lunch though.

TenkaHotpot

Hotpot anyone? Combination of meat, cheese balls, lobster balls, tofu and more.

TenkaDessert

Yummy dessert in a cute saucer!

We also dropped by the kido-preneur show at the Glorietta activity center. It was fun to see all the kids selling their stuff. I’ll have my future kids participate in activities like this too. We did not stay long though and we were not able to buy anything because the kids were selling mostly food and we were really still full from lunch.

We watched Kita Kita. The movie is not your regular rom-com but I still enjoyed it. I got scared because I learned from the movie that stress can cause temporary blindness. Ok, I need to really train myself not to get stressed easily on so many things. It made me want to go back to Japan and explore its other parts especially its natural resources. Also, I’m sure Sapporo beer sales went up recently hahahaha. A friend bought one to try it. Another friend in FB posted one too hehehehe.

Sunday was pamper myself day after mass. The only planned thing I was not able to do was get a hair cut. The salon was full of clients and I did not want to wait. Maybe this weekend when I can go there earlier.

The end.

Hope you are all having a blessed week.

Peace,

Mylene

2017 Week 27: Another Weekend in Baguio

July 3-9, 2017

Hello hello! What happened again last week? Let me see…

Work

The third vendor that we are considering for our system requirement had their proof of concept presentation last June 29. Therefore, we finalized our vendor scorecard last week. I sent out the final version to the group for their ratings.

Some of the team members at work went out for lunch and then meeting after. Lunch was courtesy of employer. Thanks, employer!

Frazzled_Cook_GrilledSalmon

My order of grilled salmon with mango salsa at The Frazzled Cook. This is yummy! We also shared different flavors of cakes for dessert.

The purpose was for us to brainstorm on our 2018 initiatives. Yes, it’s budget season once again, hence the bosses are collecting all initiatives from different groups so that costs are factored in. I personally think that we were productive because there were a lot of ideas gathered in less than 2 hours. Looks like the offsite meeting is effective. Sana maulit muli. Boss…. 😀  😀  😀

I went home to Baguio last Friday, after our meeting. It was my mom’s death anniversary last July 6 and we decided to have a simple get together last July 8. We invited her friends in church for a prayer service. Thank you, DMC community.

It was a fun time to be with family and friends again.

I went to mass on Sunday and traveled back to Manila in the afternoon so that I get more rest time. Iba na talaga ang tumatanda hahaha.

And that’s it.

Have a great week (or weekend) ahead.

2017 Week 26: Visiting OFWs

June 26-July 2, 2017

Wait, what? Last week was week 26. Therefore half of the year has gone by. Oo nga naman. July na kaya. Should I do a review mid-year review of my 2017 goals? Wahhh hahaha.

 Anyway…

June 26 was a holiday and I spent that doing my assignments. One more week to go! And our deadline was extended so yey! Hehe.

A friend who works in SG came home for a visit and he requested for us to meet on Tuesday. Our calendars were open for a quick dinner so off we went to Robinson’s Magnolia.

I didn’t know he and around 3,000 employees more were laid off from their jobs last year because the company outsourced most of its operations to India. Good for him and another friend, they were able to find new jobs.

Aside from his stories, he also gave us a bag of salted egg potato chips hehehe. Sarap! I forced myself to not consume it all in one seating because…egg yokes hehe.

IrvinsSaltedEgg

Irvin’s Salted Egg from SG

My OFW niece who left for the Middle East two years ago also arrived on Friday night! Thanks to Uber, there was no need to to fetch her at the airport.

She decided to just go home to Baguio on Sunday early morning because for sure, the terminals are full on Friday night. And so we spent Saturday evening at the mall for me to buy some stuff and…buffet dinner. She missed pork so might as well go to a buffet so that all her cravings are satisfied hehe. We were laughing because we were wearing the same shirts that we also wore when we also had buffet 2 years ago before she left hehe.

DateNuts

Preserved dates from my niece who came home from the Middle East. This is yummy!

Pistachios

Pistachios! Because it’s so expensive here in PH, I asked my niece to buy a few bags. It’s still expensive actually but a little cheaper. She got some of these on sale.

I have a teammate who is training to become a registered financial planner. We sometimes discuss about personal finance and last week, we were comparing notes about books that we love to read. And because of that, I went trigger happy with the ppersonal finance books she mentioned hihi. Plus I saw copies of Francisco Colayco’s books. I want to buy a new set for my and the BF’s copy because the books I bought more than a decade ago will be “for borrowing” or for “forced reading” by my siblings, nieces and nephews hehehe.

PersonalFinanceBooks

Addition to my collection of personal finance books!

Lastly, we got our sick leave mid-year conversion last week yehey! Just in time for my additional expenses – nephew’s allowance and food budget and mom’s death anniversary.

Ok, we were not supposed to prepare for the anniversary. I was just planning to light a candle for her on Thursday. However, for some weird reason, I and my Tita dreamed about her on the same night. Our dreams were vague but we just took it as a sign that she wants a small get together this weekend. Get together it is!

And that’s it for last week.

Have a great week ahead.
