2017 Week 31: Working Weekend…Not

July 24-30, 2017

The system is ready for testing. Unfortunately, there are a lot of bugs and the user interface is not seamless yet. Hopefully, it stabilizes after all those findings last week.

And so, I was supposed to do some testing last Sunday. However, when I was about to start, electricity went off. Hence, I decided to just go to the mall and unwind a bit.

Unwinding means an early dinner at Yellow Cab and watching 2 movies hehehe. My friend was available so she joined me.

We watched Finally Found Someone. I cried the most at the scenes with JLC and his mom and siblings. #medyorelate #medyopagod

We also watched Cars 3. Well, the movie reminded us that my friend and I are getting old and that maybe one of the things we should be doing now is coaching. I have some coaching sessions sometimes at work but not much. Anyway…

My friend came from Bacolod and gave me some goodies – napoleones and cheese bars. It was my first time to taste napoleones and it is so yummy!!!! Napoleones is a layered puff pastry with custard cream filling and with glazed white sugar on top. I saw a 2011 article saying that this is available at Roli’s bakeshop stall at SM Megamall. I am not sure if it’s still there but it’s worth checking out hehe.

I also did 2 batches of laundry, mended some clothes, and ironed all office clothes. I usually do the ironing on weekends because I hate ironing one at a time, worst during weekdays.

My nephew has completed his OJT. He already went home but he’ll be back next week to get his other stuff. I hope he learned a lot.

My officemate started her training to becoming a registered financial planner. Their speaker last Saturday was Mr. Efren Ll. Cruz. I asked her to let him sign my copy of the book he authored and she was able to do it. I’m ecstatic! I have his book for almost a decade now.

SignedBook

Thank you, Sir for that message. Still working on improving my financial standing hehe.

I watched some videos about capsule wardrobe last Saturday. I was inspired to 1) double check again (because I’ve decluttered at least twice this year already) the things I own to make sure that I only keep those that I use and make me happy, 2) have a color palette and style because this in a way helps establish a personal branding and it’s easier to mix and match. I’ll work on #1 in August. For #2, I’ll  start when I need to buy new stuff because refreshing my clothing is not practical at this time as all are still in good condition. I still want to get my money’s worth for the items that I have now. I already know the color palette I like. It will be blue, gray, black, white, and maybe blush pink because I think these are the colors that best suit me.

And that’s it. Have a blessed week ahead.

Peace,

Mylene

2017 Week 23: Sales Hopping | Unplanned Shopping

May 29 – June 4, 2017

Work

After the vendor sessions, we needed to come up with vendor criteria to guide us in the vendor selection. There were many suggestions and nothing was finalized during that meeting. There were additional documents we needed to get from the vendors so it’s waiting period for us. However, the proposals were all in and I now need to create a summary of all the pricing.

The other project has picked up as well. I was able to discuss the requirements to our developers so that’s one thing out of my plate and we can all move on to development and test script creation in preparation for testing.

By the way, there was another opportunity for a speaking engagement for June 10. However, I had to decline because I’m going home this weekend and the topics are not one of my expertise. I need to spend time for research. So, next time na lang.

Whew.

Weekend

On Saturday, a friend and I visited some of the ongoing sales hehehe.

First stop was at Shoe Buffet held at Casa Filipino in San Juan. Well, I did not buy anything. There was one shoe I wanted but not available in my size so it wasn’t meant for me.

Second stop was at the Oster sale in their warehouse along Sheridan St., Mandaluyong. While I did not buy anything, my friend was able to buy a stick mixer with chopper and whisk that she was planning to buy for sometime now.

Ok, the next one is unplanned. However, we had a lot of time to spare while waiting for the Wonder Woman movie to start at 9 PM. We went around the shops to kill time.

Our last stop was at Rustan’s. Longchamp to be specific. Seriously, we just wanted to touch and admire the bags! But then, there was an ongoing sale! Some of their seasonal colors were discounted at 45% off. The others at 15% off and some colors at 25% off. Le Pliage red garance long handle, the one in my list of “wants” was on sale at 25% off. I bought one and paid Php 4,688.00. My friend got one in old rose too.

The sale is until July 2 or until supplies last. We bought ours in Rustan’s Shangri-la Mall.

They have increased their prices for the large long handle from Php 5,950.00 last year to Php 6,250.00 to Php 6,450.00 this year.

Longchamp Le Pliage Long Handle Red Garance

Hi. I’m red garance!

On Sunday, my brother and nephew came for a visit. Will have a separate post for the purpose of their visit hehe.

The end.

Have a great week ahead. As for me, dildil asin mode on. Hahaha!

2017 Week 22: Vendor Sessions | Movies

May 22-28, 2017

Work

One of the projects I’m working on requires a vendor. Last week, we were able to meet with all the vendors for their discovery sessions. It was a brain draining activity but it it also interesting to see how the different vendors showcase their solutions.

Like for one vendor, I was hesitant to shortlist them at first because aside from being expensive , I think their product won’t fit all of our requirements. However, after a second session with them, I changed my mind. Of all the solutions we saw, theirs might be the most robust and configurable, well at least based on how they answered our questions.

There was another vendor who I want to drop from the list early on but the boss of the boss said to still invite them. Ayun, I’m still not convinced, and even the stakeholders did not feel confident about them.

Because of these activities, meetings were held at the stakeholders’ offices, depending on where they’ll be reporting that day. And so on Thursday, we found ourselves traveling all the way to Alabang Town Center. My oh my, I love the place! The roads leading to the building were lined with trees!

But of course I don’t want to report there on a daily basis because for sure, commuting will be a challenge. We booked Uber (thanks, boss!) and our fare was Php 555.00, inclusive of toll fee. Imagine, more expensive than a 1-way fare to Baguio hahaha! So, no. Sana hindi kami ilipat doon.

I was also in Worldwide Corporate Center on Wednesday and Friday. I had dinner at Coffee Project. The place has pretty decors. I’m not just sure how I feel about the fake flowers hehehe.

I ordered sardines pasta and I think caramel vanilla frappuccino (I think). The pasta is good but I think it’s expensive at Php 180.00. The serving though is bigger than the usual single orders in other restaurants.

Dinner is served. Yum.

Daming ganap last week.

Weekend

Because I wanted to relax a bit, I checked with my friend if she wanted to watch a movie. She said yes so we met at Megamall in the evening. We watched Dear Other Self and Pirates of the Caribbean.

While I like Jodi, I think the story did not depict a true-blue travel blogger hahaha. Basta medyo ilang beses kaming napa-comment ng “Akala ko ba travel blogger sya?” Hehehe. But we were there for entertainment so we got it.

We watched the Pirates at the Director’s Club. Yes, those with reclining seats. And yes, ubusan ng allowance ito hahaha. But we enjoyed nonetheless so dildil asin na lang to compensate hahaha. I thought I was going to sleep because of the comfy chairs but the movie kept me awake until the end. At least di nasayang binayad ko hahaha.

The rest of the weekend was spent doing the usual household chores.

The end.

Have a great week ahead.

2017 Week 2: Back to the Daily Grind

January 2-8, 2017

Ok, so the holidays are over and so we’re back to the daily grind.

I traveled back to Manila on January 2. Thank you, Lord for a safe trip that night.

Work was just picking up from what we all left when most of us went for that much needed break on the last week of December.

I met with my friend’s family on January 3. They are based in SG now and are here for a visit. We ate at Gangnam Wings at SM Megamall. The store is located at the strip, Mega A side. It specializes on Korean fried chicken.

Our orders:

gangnam2

Fried chicken. I liked the chicken. It’s crispy but not too oily.

gangnam3

Spicy seafood noodle but we requested a less spicy version.

gangnam1

Watermelon with soju. This was refreshing. Good thing they did not mix the soju so we had control on the amount of alcohol to add to the watermelon hehe.

gangnam4

Rock melon bingsu. Fresh fruit and ice cream. Winner!

Weekend

My friend and I met up on Saturday to catch up on some of the MMFF movies. We watched Die Beautiful, Vince & Kath & James and Sunday Beauty Queen.

Paulo Ballesteros (Die Beautiful) would have been beautiful if he was a woman hehehe.

Vince & Kath & James was really for teens hahaha! It was also ok though. We enjoyed laughing at the crowd’s reactions. There were 2 groups who were quite loud. One is obviously rooting for Vince and the other one for James. While it can get irritating at times, we just had fun laughing at them because their reactions to some of the scenes can really be hilarious hehehe.

The most touching movie for me was Sunday Beauty Queen. This is a documentary about OFWs in Hong Kong. I have seen again that life is not really fair and it gets tough and tougher for some of us. Hence, we should always be thankful for all of our blessings, no matter how small these are.

I went to mass on Sunday and then to the mall as I need to replace some blouses and I was hoping to score some from the end of season sale. Mission accomplished as I was able to buy 3 blouses, which was my goal.

Next stop was the grocery for some supplies before going home.

The end.

Have a great week ahead.

2016 Week 34 Recap: Issues, Movies, Food Trips

August 15-21, 2016

Work

Ay yay yay! Let me just say that this is taking most of my time right now, including holidays and weekends. For instance, I had to work on Friday, which was a holiday in Quezon City, and ended on Saturday morning and just slept the whole day of Saturday.

But, of course this too, shall pass. Everything will settle down as the users become familiar with the new systems and all bugs are addressed. Tuloy lang.

Weekend

This is more interesting haha.

Since our office is in Quezon City and August 19 was Quezon Day, our weekend technically started earlier. I took the opportunity to visit a dentist on Friday. I found my dentist and I liked her service so far. Now, no need to go to the mall and have whoever is available. I had oral prophylaxis and tooth filling. She mentioned that there’s a maximum service per visit as required by our HMO provider (I think 5, and I didn’t know this) but she said no need for additional fees. She said it can all be covered by our provider. Cool! Thank you, employer.

Incidentally, I mentioned about it to my boss and she said she was her dentist when our health card was Medicard and she was happy to know that she (dentist) is also affiliated with Intellicare. Knowing my boss’ standards, I now know I’m in good hands. The dentist is Dr. Nenette Dolatre and their clinic (Dolatre-Abellon) is at Broadway Centrum, Quezon City. They are a family of dentists, based on the certificates I saw posted in their clinic.

After my dental appointment, I dropped by Shang for lunch. I tried L&L Hawaiian Barbecue. I’m not really impressed with the BBQ pork I ordered but maybe it was because my teeth was still painful while I was eating. But more than that, I did not like how the staff took my order. I was at the cashier looking for someone to talk to and the guy inside the kitchen asked me what my order was and just pointing at the menu. At nakapangalumbaba lang. Ano naman yun? Then there was just one customer other than me to think that it was peak hours at around 12:30 PM.

I slept all through Saturday because I was up all night until Saturday morning resolving an issue. But I was able to watch Always Woodstock when I woke up by early evening. It’s comedy, music and romance. It’s relatable (at least to me) because there’s always my hometown to go home to for good, anytime I wish to.

Sunday was day with friends. But first, mass of course. We went to Uptown mall for food trip and movie. Yes, food trip talaga.

IMG_3809

Looks like Uptown Mall has “wood” as one of their themes

We had lunch at Fely J’s. Hay, everything’s so yummy. I liked all the food we ordered. I think the price is right for the serving which is usually good for 2-3 pax.

Our orders: sisig rice, Gule Magalang (was not able to taste this because it has alamang which always upsets my stomach), Lola Ising’s adobo (winner ‘to!), Utan Ilonggo soup (just vegetables, shrimp, and clams but still so good!).

IMG_3854

Across Fely J’s was Paper Moon. I always wanted to try this and good thing my friend wanted it too so we went there for dessert. Each of us ordered different flavors of crepe cake so that we can taste more than one hehehe. Masarap naman and good with coffee as per my friends who also ordered coffee. Medyo namahalan lang ako. Php 225.00 per slice. Mahal ‘no?

Mango, Matcha and classic crepe

We watched The Shallows after lunch. I was hesitant to watch this at first because I really don’t like horror and movies that catch me by surprise. Nakakapraning kasi hahaha. But my friends said mild lang naman daw so go lang. And it was ok. The lead girl’s surfing skills was awesome.

We dropped by La Lola after the movie to try the churros. Sagad na. We ordered the ultimate mixed which has the classic, dark chocolate, matcha, white chocolate, and butterscotch flavors. I loved the white chocolate and butterscotch! And yes, food trip talaga ito. We tasted each flavor and kept the rest for later. Pwede na pang-breakfast bukas hehehe.

Hello there :p

Since it was still early, we went to McKinley Hill to check out Venice Grand Canal. Picture picture. There were a lot of people! It was hard to get a decent shot. We just walked around the canal. There were also gondola rides. But it was Php 500 per head!!! Why that expensive? Ok, I’ll just reserve that gondola ride for Venice, Italy :).

IMG_3822

At one end of the canal. There’s the gondola. The guides are singing daw but I can’t hear them hehe.

At the other end. They just turned on the lights at the lamp post. I think this will also be a spectacular view at dusk.

We called it a day after. Thanks, Uber, for the Php 100 off for our ride today. Appreciate it!

And here I am now, blogging about this week and turning in for the night earlier than usual hehehe.

Hope you all have a great week ahead.

P.S. 1: Dear issues at work, please cooperate and let us all be chill so that everybody happy. Medyo naha-hype na kasi kayo eh. Abot hanggang kataas-taasan kasi naman kung maka-react mga tao, parang end of the world na. Naiintindihan ko naman where they are coming from, but please, no need to panic. Birth pains lang to, plus change is good too. 🙂

P.S. 2: Dear universe, I really really really want the Adiddas Superstar white with gold stripes. San ba may available non? All stores I checked out said out of stock daw. Promise, I’ll use extra money to buy it. No utang :).
